The Wings fought hard but fell 3-0 to the Lions in the Chicago Avenue Cup. Lions clinch second by virtue of 2 head to head victories over the Machine.

GREEN MACHINE 1 KOZAKS 0
Guest keeper Kris Salvador saved the day for the Machine with several spectacular saves. Claudio scored the lone goal in the Machine victory. The Machine gave up the fewest goals this season, and avoids the Celtics in the first round of the playoffs.

CELTICS 9 DYNAMO 3
Celtics jumped up 5-0 early. Dynamo’s Schlenker answered with the quickest 3 goals in 7 v 7 history (2 min, 36 sec.). Victor Solarte scored the hat trick to pull the Celtics away to a 9-3 win.

The Kozaks have yet to solve the Celtics and need Jerry Motolko to come up with some big goals. Celtics have 3 in the top 10 scorers Acuna/Tovar/Dolborn that the Kozaks have to deal with.

6:35 SEMI-FINAL 2-LIONS V 3-GREEN MACHINE
Lions beat the Machine twice during the regular season, but the Machine came on strong in the end. Figueroa and Abidor hope to lead the Machine while the Lions will be paced by Neil Kaiser and Kris Salvador.

MOTOLKO WINS 2003 GOLDEN BOOT

Congratulations goes out to 2003 Golden boot winner, Jerry Motolko. With 41 points, he outdistanced The Machine’s double threat of Figueroa (36) and Abidor (30), as well as 2002 winner, Celtic-Johnny Tovar. He becomes the second Kozak to win the honor (Yaro-1999). Previous winners include: 2002 Johnny Tovar, 2001 Joe Owerko, 2000 Victor Solarte and 1999 Yaro. The award was not given in 1997 or 1998.

The Chicago Fire thanks the 7v7 league for their support of the 2003 Ukrainian Night. Every team committed to 20 vouchers. An exciting night is planned, honoring Chicago’s Ukrainian community.
