JULY 18 RESULTSCELTICS 9 KOZAKS 2 The Kozaks were missing a few key players due to injury and ran into a man on a mission. Johnny Tovar saw the “Golden Boot” in his sights and with the help of his teammates scored 7 times and the Celtics destroyed the Kozaks 9-2.
GREEN MACHINE 8 DYNAMO 1 Green Machine Manager, Rusty, knew that the Wings had an outside chance to steal away the last playoff spot from him , so he made sure to bring his entire lineup. Claudio had a career night, scoring 7, and practically insuring a playoff spot.
WINGS 5 LIONS 3 Peter Byskosh of the Lions needed 6 points for the “Golden Boot” but came up 2 short. Roman Kuropas made his first appearance for the Wings in a game that was played essentially for pride. He scored twice. Oleg Glywka added two, Tomba had a goal and an assist and Joe Owerko had 3 assists to help The Wings detfeat the 2nd place Lions. The Wings Just missed out on the playoffs. One can only speculate how they would have fared if Kuropas had been around all season.
